a little bit about

josh whelchel

Hey there! My name is Josh, and thanks for checking out my website (and hopefully, my music!). I’ve been writing music for a while now, and in 2011 I decided to become a full-time freelance composer. You might also call me an Indie Game Composer, or just a Video Game Music specialist.

While I can write nearly anything you ask me to, I specialize in soundtracks for video games. I was called one of the “youngest talents in the realm of Western Video Game Music” by originalsoundversion.com in 2009 thanks to my work on The Spirit Engine 2 which was awarded the “#2 Game of the Year” by gametunnel.com. I’ve worked on numerous games and some films too.

In 2010, I was honored to be a part of the inaugural jury committee for the Independent Games Festival “Excellence in Audio Award,” where I helped nominate and vote for a $2,500 prize winner. I also enjoy contributing remixes to Overclocked ReMix and have appeared on several video game albums.

In addition to writing music, I also organize and produce Songs for the Cure each year which raises just over $6,000 annually for the American Cancer Society. I also like to put some sweat and brainpower into the Monocle Engine, to which I’ve helped implement the audio engine.
